January Update

Building off my update last month, I did read Pedagogy of the Oppressed over break and it, along with Young’s “Five Faces of Oppression,” have become very important both to my literature review and my personal research ethic. One side effect of my research is that I have begun to apply the analytical framework I’ve developed for my case study novels to every piece of media I watch and read for fun. This has led to long conversations with my roommate about the political and racial implications of shows we both watch. Some people might think that this makes consuming media less fun, but I haven’t found that to be the case. Personally, I don’t think I’m really enjoying something if I’m not making connections between it, real life, and other texts.

I’ve also been writing more and have a better idea of what the final structure of my thesis will look like. I’m very excited to continue working on my thesis and hope to bring you another productive update next month.
