I just wanted to quickly update you all on how the thesis is going. I turned it in to my committee and successfully defended it on Tuesday, May 1st. I am very excited to have finished my defense and now I will begin to work on the revisions to the thesis. I am planning on finishing this up in the next couple of days and I am looking forward to getting it bound.
Crunch Time
As we begin April in earnest, the thesis is getting into its last stages. I am currently in the process of attempting to iron out the small problems still inherent in the Blue Crab model and work towards getting the draft ready for the committee to receive on Friday.
Plugging away
Hello all,
Since I last updated the blog, we have been primarily working on tightening up the parameter values as well as calculating the bifurcation derivative, which will give evidence as to the bistability of our model. Beyond that, there has been a lot of writing and editing, as we go to press quite soon!
Joint Mathematics Meeting in Boston
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year.
I spent most of my break from school planning and then participating in the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Boston. This is the biggest math conference in the United States and I was honored to be able to present a poster in the undergraduate poster session at JMM again.
Sorry for the lack of recent posts!
Hello everyone!
I apologize for the lack of updates, and for the shortness of this update. My semester has been hectic to say the least. I have taken the Mathematics Subject GRE twice now and I am currently working on finishing my 12 (!?) graduate school applications, so my research has been pushed to the side for a little bit.
Back to School
Hello everyone,
Sorry for the lack of posts recently. I have been very busy studying for the GRE and then taking it right before school started (I was actually taking it during the earthquake!). I have also been working on applications for math graduate school and have a list of 13 schools that I may apply to. Along with that, I have been studying for the Math GRE which I will take in October. I have just settled in back at school, dealt with the hurricane, and I will begin working with Professor Shi again at the start of next week. Now that you know what I have been doing in my personal life, I’ll move on to the mathematics.
Non-trivial equilibria and evidence of bistability
Since I last updated you all on my progress, we have made a few changes and have gone considerably further in our analysis of the mathematical model for the blue crab population.
Just a quick hello
Hello everyone!
I have been back on campus for a couple days now and am just starting to get fully immersed back into working on my Blue Crab Model full-time again. I’ll just give you a heads-up of where we think we are headed this summer and our goals.
A mathematical approach to studying the Blue Crab
Hello everyone! My name is Tim Becker and I am about to enter my senior year here at the College. I am a mathematics major and I love anything to do with math, sports, reading, and nature. I’d like to just give you a brief introduction into how I became so caught up in mathematics, as well as some detail concerning the research that I am doing.
